EvansvilleWatch Forecast for Wednesday, August 1st, 2012

Warnings, Watches, and Advisories
Air Quality Alert of Vanderburgh County [IN] for Thursday.

We are now in the month of August and that means one thing: Summer vacation is almost over and school will be starting. One thing we would like to see end is the heat. However, that is not going to. It would be nice for it to end right now, but Mother Nature has more power than me. Right now we have weak front just south of the Ohio that might trigger some showers and thunderstorms for the extreme southern part of the Tri-State, but nothing too big. Otherwise, high pressure over Lake Michigan keeping us clear and near normal tonight in the mid-60s. The big old high will move east on Thursday turning the winds from the south and keeping us hot, humid, and in the upper 90s to around 100.

Thursday Night, Friday, and Friday Night: A low pressure system will move into the Tri-State on Thursday Night increasing our clouds and rain chances (37%). Overnight lows still be warm in the low 70s. Our rain chances still stay for Friday (38%) with the skies staying partly sunny/cloudy during the day. Still will be hot, but not as hot as Thursday, this time into the low to mid-90s. Rain chances go down for Friday Night (29%), but will staying warm in the low to mid-70s.

Weekend: Our rain chances slightly go back up on Saturday (32%), but Sunday is the day we are watching. A cold front will sweep over the Tri-State giving us our best chance of rain for the next seven days at 43%. Might sound low, but with the way our drought has been, how hot we have been, and just little to rain, that 43% does sound like a lot. Highs for Saturday in the low to mid-90s, but Sunday into the upper 80s to around 90.

Monday thru Wednesday: Next week we might see temps stay below or near 90. Do I want that to happen? Yes. Will temps stay below 90? I do not think so, but I did put temps in the upper 80s to near 90 right now. This is all five to seven days out and that will all change over the next few days. Skies will be sunny to mostly sunny.

Severe Weather Risk: We do have a chance for some of our thunderstorms Thursday Night thru Sunday to be on the severe side. Right now, everything should be on the strong side with a few isolated severe storms. Main threats should remain damaging winds and hail.
