Warnings, Watches, and Advisories
Air Quality Alert for Vanderburgh, Knox Counties [IN] for Tuesday.
At 9PM: High pressure in control and that means cooler and warmer air. I will get to that in just one minute. That strong ridge of high pressure off towards our west is starting to break down and that heat wave will soon leave out there.
Tonight, Tuesday, and Tuesday Night: High pressure will control our weather for tonight, Tuesday, and Tuesday Night. Clear and cool tonight with lows in the low to mid-60s. Sunny, but still hot on Tuesday in the low 90s. Tuesday night, clear still, but a little warmer in the mid-60s.
Wednesday thru Thursday: Wednesday is looking to be the hottest day out of the next seven days with highs in the mid-90s as that area of high pressure starts to move out of the Tri-State. Our focus then turns to a cold front that will head our way Wednesday Night and Thursday. This front will kick off some widely scattered showers and thunderstorms, but for those of you that won’t see the rain, you will see the cloud cover. That cloud cover will keep us warm as lows hit around 70. Thursday looks to be the best day for showers and thunderstorms, but staying cloudy with highs in the upper 80s. See the Severe Weather Risk section for more info.
Friday thru next Monday: We do have one more system for Friday that looks to keep some rain around for day. I do believe that skies will stay partly cloudy, but it might be partly sunny as we head down the road. Highs for Friday will stay much cooler, below normal as a matter of fact around 80. This weekend, high pressure is back and so I the sunshine and cool temps. Highs for this weekend will stay in the low to mid-80s. We might have system on Monday to spark off a few rain drops, but overall should stay on the sunny side with highs once again in the mid-80s.
Severe Weather Risk: Our risk of severe weather does remain low by the SPC for the next seven days right now, but I do believe we do have a chance of seeing some strong storms to severe weather this week. Our best chances will be late Wednesday Night thru early Friday morning. The only reason I say that is because some model data wants some of these storms to kick off as severe. Main threats will be damaging winds, hail, and heavy rainfall. The tornado threat I will be keeping low at this time. I think it’s just too early to make that call. Updates as they do come in.
Tropical Update: Florence became a post-tropical low this morning. NHC did not think it would ever make it to full hurricane status. Ernesto is still a tropical storm as of the 8PM EDT Advisory. Winds are at 65MPH and moving WNW at 12MPH. Ernesto is forecasted to become a hurricane either overnight or during the day on Wednesday if it holds together the right way. If not, it will remain a tropical storm, head towards the Gulf of Mexico and hit in Central Mexico.
