Warnings, Watches, and Advisories
None
At 10PM: High pressure was still in control today as we had yet again another cloud free day. That high will stay once again overnight, but it will start to weaken and let some clouds move in. A cold front and area of low pressure is over Lake Michigan while a stationary front is in the south giving parts of Alabama over 1.50” of rain. The heat ridge still goes on out west as Excessive Heat Warnings/Watches are going out with temps forecasted to be above 100.
Overnight: High pressure will still be around, but will weaken and we might see some locations with partly cloudy skies. Otherwise, staying mainly clear with lows in the mid-60s.
Wednesday/Wednesday Night: Still sunny, but turning warmer for Wednesday as highs reach the low 90s. Late in the day, a cold front will start to move in and might trigger a few showers and thunderstorms in the evening. The best overall chance for Wednesday will come overnight. We have roughly about a 38% chance of rain, which is good for what we do need badly. Skies should stay mostly cloudy to cloudy, but it will all go by who sees rain first; lows again in the mid-60s.
Thursday/Thursday Night: Our best chance of rain will come on Thursday and overnight. We have a strong cold front that will push over the area. The jet stream and a few other factors are going to come together to bring us strong to severe storms. The SPC has put us under a Slight Risk of severe weather for Thursday and Thursday Night. Our main threats will be damaging winds, hail, heavy rainfall, and dangerous lighting. The tornado threat is just not there. The timing right now is going to be Thursday afternoon into early Friday morning. Now I do not want to get into a whole this will be the time, but I do believe anytime after about 2PM is when we should start to see the best of the severe weather coming together. I say that because that is normal the primetime for severe weather to start. Highs for Thursday will be cooler in the lower 80s and Thursday Night lows in the lower 60s.
Weekend: We do have a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Friday on the back side of the cold front, chances are at 47%. It will stay mostly cloudy and much cooler in the low to mid-70s, which is temps we normally see in the fall. We are going to see a trough of low pressure sit over the Lake Erie area. This will drive both drier and cooler air towards us for Saturday and Sunday as we stay mostly sunny and highs in the mid to upper 70s. Again, more fall like.
Monday and Tuesday: For the start of the next work week, temps will be in the lower 80s under mostly sunny to sunny skies. Once again, more fall like.
Severe Weather Risk: We do have a general low end 5% probability thunderstorm risk for Wednesday. What that means is our thunderstorms could be on the strong side at times. Slight Risk again for Thursday as I said above. Chance of seeing strong to severe storms on Friday. Saturday thru next Tuesday chances are low.
Tropical Update: An update this evening on Ernesto. He did become a hurricane this afternoon and will stay a cat 1 hurricane. At 8PM, winds were 85MPH and moving WNW at 18MPH. Landfall is forecasted for late Thursday, early Friday, enter back into the Gulf of Mexico before landing again on Friday in the Central/Southern part of Mexico.
