EvansvilleWatch Forecast for Tuesday, August 7th, 2012

Warnings, Watches, and Advisories
Air Quality Alert for Wednesday for Vanderburgh County [IN]

At 9PM: High pressure was still in control today as we had yet again another cloud free day. That high will stay once again overnight, but it will start to weaken and let some clouds move in. A cold front and area of low pressure is over Lake Michigan while a stationary front is in the south giving parts of Alabama over 1.50” of rain. The heat ridge still goes on out west as Excessive Heat Warnings/Watches are going out with temps forecasted to be above 100.

Overnight: High pressure still in control, but will start to weaken. Some clouds around, but we should remain mainly clear and in the mid-60s.

Wednesday/Wednesday Night: Still hot for Wednesday under mostly sunny skies in the mid to upper 90s, we might have a few locations get above 100. Overnight Wednesday, we have an isolated chance of seeing some showers and storms (19%) ahead of a cold front moving in. Along with that front will be cloud cover that will make the daytime heating stay overnight keeping us warmer in the upper 60s.

Thursday/Thursday Night: Our best chance of rain will come on Thursday and overnight. We have a strong cold front that will push over the area. The jet stream and a few other factors are going to come together to bring us strong to severe storms. The SPC has put us under a Slight Risk of severe weather for Thursday and Thursday Night. Our main threats will be damaging winds, hail, heavy rainfall, and dangerous lighting. The tornado threat is just not there. The timing right now is going to be Thursday afternoon into early Friday morning. Highs for Thursday will be in the lower 90s and overnight lows in the upper 60s once again.

Weekend: We do have chance of seeing rain on Friday morning, about 28% chance. I do believe that our best chance will be in the morning with the rest of the day being off and on. Otherwise, partly cloudy skies, although some locations could be party sunny, and cooler in the upper 70s. Saturday and Sunday we’ll see a trough of low pressure sit over the Lake Erie area. That will drive drier and cooler air towards us keeping us with mostly sunny skies and highs in the lower 80s. This weekend will be more like fall and less like August.

Monday and Tuesday: Monday is staying nice under mostly sunny skies in the mid-80s. Watching a system on Tuesday that might give us an isolated shower or storm. If you do get one of those, you will be lucky. Overall I do believe we will stay mostly sunny, but warmer in the upper 80s.

Severe Weather Risk: We do have a general low end 5% probability thunderstorm risk for Wednesday. What that means is our thunderstorms could be on the strong side at times. Slight Risk again for Thursday as I said above. Chance of seeing strong to severe storms on Friday. Saturday thru next Tuesday chances are low.

Tropical Update: An update this evening on Ernesto. He did become a hurricane this afternoon and will stay a cat 1 hurricane. At 8PM, winds were 85MPH and moving WNW at 18MPH. Landfall is forecasted for late Thursday, early Friday, enter back into the Gulf of Mexico before landing again on Friday in the Central/Southern part of Mexico.
